BBC Match of the Day’s Danny Murphy has heaped praised on underrated Leicester City star Marc Albrighton.

Just days after Albrighton was overlooked by Gareth Southgate for the friendlies against the Netherlands and Italy, he produced a magnificent display against Chelsea in the FA Cup quarter-final, even if it wasn’t enough in the end.

The 28-year old’s performance the other night has surprisingly earned him some praise from the one and only Danny Murphy, who didn’t hold back when expressing just how good he feels the Leicester City midfielder is.

Talking about Marc Albrighton on commentary, he said:

"“I really like Marc Albrighton, he’s a very under-rated player in many ways.“He can open up teams, cross with both feet and he can defend quite well.“I think in the last couple of seasons you could say he has warranted one (an England call).“We are blessed in attacking areas at the moment when you think of Lingard, Rashford, Sterling, Lallana, Vardy, Kane and Dele Alli”“But I think Albrighton is one of those who is some people might think should have a chance.”"

When Danny Murphy says it, you believe it – at least when it’s associated with Leicester City. The BBC Pundit isn’t really a loved figure among the Foxes faithful, especially after he recently said that Riyad Mahrez is too big for the club.

Thankfully, Marc Albrighton isn’t that “big” for the only club to have knocked a Spanish side out of the UEFA Champions League in recent memory. The former Aston Villa man has scored two goals and assisted seven this Premier league campaign, the second highest by an Englishman, while his tally of 20 assists in the last three seasons is the third highest by an Englishman in the league.

Certainly, someone has to ask the England manager as to why has he not been picked in the side, if it’s merit, playing time and ability that’ he picks his players on. If Jesse Lingard, Jack Wilshere, Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain, Jordan Henderson, Danny Welbeck and Adam Lallana can be included, then Marc Albrighton should be, too.
