Ben Chilwell

Appearances: 27

The future of Leicester City if they do manage to keep hold of him when he finally reaches the peak time of his career. Most of the Foxes faithful tend to prefer him over Christian Fuchs, and it’s quite understandable because of the ebullience that he brings to the team.

The best description of him would be that he’s a typical modern-day full-back who has got a tank’s worth of energy in him, is active in the opponent’s half more than his own, and a vital part of the team going forward.

This is where the problem is for Leicester. They are not the kind of team that can afford to have a full-back who mostly likes to attack and not defend much  – and with little success, too, as the numbers suggest.

Contrary to the consensus, Chilwell isn’t actually entirely better than Fuchs in attack. As per WhoScored, the England U-21s international has lesser shots and key passes per game and has been dispossessed more than Fuchs, but he does complete more dribbles and draws more fouls than the Austrian, which says something about the way he likes to play.

Mind, the differences here are very marginal, but they do bust the myth that Ben Chilwell is a more offensively successful player than Christian Fuchs. He is certainly the man for the years to come, but at the moment, it’s someone else who is doing it better.
