Christian Fuchs

Appearances: 25

Experienced and therefore more reliable, Christian Fuchs is the all-round package, even if his critics might not say so. At 31, he may not be the player that he was in the title-winning campaign of 2015/16, but the old-guard still has enough in him to carry on for maybe a couple of seasons more.

We have already discussed his offensive superiority over Ben Chilwell, so let’s have a look at his strength, too: The defensive calibre.

Per WhoScored, he has more tackles, interceptions, clearances and offsides won per game, being second best only in aerial duels (won per game), fouls and blocks per game. Another noteworthy statistic here is that of the pass success percentage, which he again beats Chilwell in.

This isn’t to draw the conclusion that Ben Chilwell isn’t a good player – he is very-very good – but only to stress upon the fact that Christian Fuchs, being the experienced player he is, is simply better and a safer option, especially in the bigger games. Your call, Claude.
