Leicester City right-back Danny Simpson has picked his Premier League team of the year – and it includes seven Manchester City players.

A section of Leicester fans will be disappointed, though, as the 31-year old didn’t pick Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez, Wilfred Ndidi or Harry Maguire in his XI.

Football fans in general, however, will be shocked to not see either Harry Kane or Eden Hazard, both of whom have been excellent all season.

Here’s Danny Simpson’s XI of the season:

David de Gea (goalkeeper; Manchester United)

Nicolas Otamendi (defender; Manchester City)

James Tarkowski (defender; Burnley)

Kyle Walker (defender; Manchester City)

Ben Davies (defender; Tottenham Hotspur)

Leroy Sane (midfielder; Manchester City)

Kevin De Bruyne (midfielder; Manchester City)

David Silva (midfielder; Manchester City)

Raheem Sterling (forward; Manchester City)

Mohamed Salah (forward; Liverpool)

Sergio Aguero (forward; Manchester City)

Peter Crouch did, however, please the Leicester City supporters by picking Harry Maguire in his team of the year for the Daily Mail. Now, the former Hull City centre-back may not quite be a team of the year-type player as yet, but there is little doubt over his contributions this season, which have all been immense and pointed to his world-class potential.

In 30 Premier League appearances this season, he has averaged more clearances and blocks than Otamendi (per WhoScored), who has probably been the best centre-back this season, while he is not far behind in terms of interceptions and tackles per game either.

And that’s exactly why both the Manchester clubs are reportedly after Harry Maguire as both look to bolster their defence for next season. Come the summer transfer window, one can be sure that there will be more clubs interested in the 25-year old.
