Vicente Iborra has asked Leicester City to be more ambitious if they are to make it into the UEFA Europa League next season.

Leicester are currently placed eighth in the Premier League table, and in with a chance of making it into the Europa League even with a seventh place finish if the FA Cup winners have qualified for Europe already.

The Foxes have a season-defining game against Burnley next week, who they are battling for that one spot, but they have some tough games either side of that fixture, and Vicente Iborra is aware of that.

Asking for ambition and humility at the same time, he said:

"“It will be very important, for the club and for us of course,” he said.“In the last period of the season we have to be ambitious but with our feet on the floor and with humility.“If we arrive in seventh it will be good for us, but we have some very difficult games against some very strong teams.“Now we have to work to improve and win a lot of games.”"

The former Sevilla captain remains one of the few players to have won the UEFA Europa League for three consecutive seasons from 2014-2016 with the Spanish side. As he now eyes the same with Leicester City, he is leading by example himself, having scored twice in the last two Premier League games, including a match-winning strike against Brighton and Hove Albion.

The 30-year has also improved the midfield which seemed to be struggling for balance earlier. Obviously, that has only made Vicente Iborra feel better about himself.

"“I feel settled into English football now.“I was injured at the start of the season.. but now I can play a lot of times and I work for this. Everything I do is to help me play and help me improve my football.”"

Leicester City are probably overthinking about European qualification at the moment. The players, the fans and even Claude Puel are all talking about the Europa League, and while it’s good to see the urgency and the ambition, the focus must be to take one game at a time.

Puel’s side next face Newcastle United at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.
