Leicester City U-23s captain Hamza Choudhury could make his full debut against Newcastle United on Saturday at the King Power Stadium.

The 20-year old has made two appearances for Leicester so far, featuring in the 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League, and a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup. However, despite regularly training and travelling with the first team, he is yet to start a single game for the Foxes.

But with an injury crisis significantly reducing Claude Puel’s options in the middle of the park, the Frenchman has hinted that, like Harvey Barnes, Hamza Choudhury is ready to be a part of the Leicester City side, too.

Speaking ahead of the fixture against Newcastle United, he said:

"“He is not far away.“He spent a lot of time training with the professionals and improved for the under-23s.“He did well for the under-23s, like Harvey Barnes. They are two young players who trained with us and they improved, they have good accuracy and good quality – an offensive player with Barnes and a defensive player with Choudhury but with a lot of quality on the ball and it’s important to continue development.“It’s important to keep good mentality for the end of the season and especially for next season.“They are good players for the future and for the team.”"

A lot of Leicester City fans will be excited about the prospect of seeing the highly rated Hamza Choudhury against the Magpies on Saturday. He has been knocking on the door for some time now and is completely worthy of this opportunity – shall it come at all.

It goes without saying, though, that Wilfred Ndidi will be missed, so will be Matty James now that he’s out of the season after a surgery. The Nigerian defensive midfielder is probably the best in business in his position in England, and it’s the security that he offers which allows Leicester City to operate more freely.

It’s a shame that he won’t be able to play in what are arguably the two most important games of the Foxes’ season, but then again, his loss may be Hamza Choudhury’s gain as well as a chance to see what are Leicester City made of.
