An unhappy Danny Drinkwater could leave Chelsea as early as the upcoming summer, according to The Guardian.

Having moved to Stamford Bridge in a late Deadline Day move, the Blues’ £35 million man has seen himself reduced to a mere benchwarmer even in a side that can barely beat West Bromwich Albion these days.

Since his transfer, he has made 22 appearances for Antonio Conte’s side, starting a mere 12 of those games. Safe to say, that won’t have been the case had he chosen to stay at Leicester City.

His World Cup dream now realistically over, a frustrated Danny Drinkwater is looking for his next destination once again, as Chelsea themselves eye a squad overhaul after a season of phenomenal failings.

The former Leicester City title-winner is reportedly among the players who the Blues are going to sell in order to fund the deals for reported targets, so it’s clear that none of the involved parties are happy with the situation as it is.

At the moment, it’s unclear as to where exactly would Drinkwater be off too. He hasn’t been linked to any single club as yet, but as the transfer window draws closer, it’s inevitable that Leicester City will find their name alongside him as possible suitors.

The Foxes are short in the midfield, and Claude Puel is definitely going to buy at least a couple of midfielders who he can build his side around – but will the Frenchman consider Danny Drinkwater? Going by the England international’s record, he should. He definitely should.
