Leicester City are interested in signing Middlesbrough captain Ben Gibson, according to Sky Sports.

The 25-year old signed a new five-year deal at the club -understood to be worth £20 million – earlier this season; however, whether or not would he stay at the Riverside Stadium would largely depend on Middlesbrough gaining promotion to the Premier League.

Tony Pulis’ side are currently placed fifth with 72 points, 11 behind Aston Villa. Shall they fail to come back into England’s top division, then the Premier League trio of Everton, West Ham United and Leicester City will all be waiting to sign him.

The Foxes have been wanting to sign the Boro skipper for the last two seasons and have failed on both the occasions, but they are still pursuing him and believe they can get their man.

Claude Puel’s side could actually do with some defensive reinforcements, especially after today’s humiliating 5-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at the Selhurst Park.

The visitors were expecting to turn their fortunes around after two defeats and a draw in their last three games, but as it turned out, they conceded two first-half goals before Marc Albrighton was sent off, only for the Eagles to score three more thereafter.

Wilfred Ndidi’s injury further added to Leicester City’s woes, who, as has been confirmed, has suffered a hamstring injury and may even miss out on the FIFA World Cup. Vicente Iborra and Matty James already out, Ndidi’s injury could only make a bad end to the season worse. God bless Claude Puel.
