Leicester City could be hosting England’s fixture against Switzerland this September, as they look to bring international football back to the King Power Stadium.

The club are locked in talks with the FA over the possibility of hosting the Three Lions’ friendly later this year, and would soon be able to confirm if the East Midlanders would be able to watch their national team in action for the first time in more than 15 years.

Not a lot of Leicester City supporters would remember it, but it was all the way back in 2003 that England, managed by Sven-Goran Eriksson, last played at the Foxes’ home, as they faced Montenegro and Serbia.

Since then, Leicester have played host to three more internationals between Brazil and Jamaica (2003), Jamaica Vs Ghana (2006) and England Vs Montenegro (U-21s; 2007).

Shall Leicester City succeed at their attempts, then it’d be an absolute treat for the fans. It’d be an equally good feeling for Jamie Vardy and Harry Maguire to play at home – maybe in the capacity of national heroes if it somehow goes their way in Russia.

The Foxes duo is in Gareth Southgate’s 23-man squad for the World Cup this summer, and they remain one of the few whose place in the side hasn’t been questioned at all. In fact, they have been dubbed as two of England’s key men at the tournament – and rightly so.

Of course, that serves as a reminder of what has become pretty obvious these days: Jamie Vardy and Harry Maguire are bloody good.
