Leicester City have had preliminary talks with Jamie Vardy over a contract extension, according to the Leicester Mercury’s Rob Tanner.

However, the England international is fully focusing on the FIFA World Cup for now, and he’ll only discuss his future after the tournament is over in July – hopefully as a world cup winner.

Vardy’s contract has become something of an immediate concern after it emerged that Atletico Madrid consider him as a potential replacement for Antoine Griezmann, who would be leaving the club this summer alongside Fernando Torres, another Madrid legend.

Diego Simeone is said to have been impressed by what he saw from Jamie Vardy when his side beat Leicester City 2-1 on aggregate in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final last season.

Apart from scoring the equaliser in the second leg, the England international proved to be difficult to control for the Atletico Madrid backline, something that we don’t say too often.

Needless to say, Vardy’s performance must have left some mark if indeed Simeone is eyeing him as a replacement for someone as good as Antoine Griezmann. However, it won’t be easy for them to lure the former Fleetwood Town forward away, judging by how stubborn Leicester City are when it comes to selling their best players, and how loyal has Vardy himself been over the years.

They’ve shown in recent times that they aren’t really a club that gives up too easily, especially in the case of someone as important as Jamie Vardy, who has previously been eyed by Arsenal, Chelsea and Everton, too.
