Leicester City are keeping a close eye on OGC Nice and Tunisia winger Bassem Srarfi, according to Foot Mercato.

The Foxes are understood to have sent their representatives to watch the 20-year old in his side’s friendly against Portugal; however, it didn’t help the cause, as he was only brought on at the 76th minute in the 2-2 draw on Monday.

Foot Mercato have also claimed that Arsenal had their representatives present on the night, too, meaning that Leicester City will have to battle it out against the Gunners if they are indeed interested.

The Tunisia international made 35 appearances last season, scoring three goals and recording an assist. Though the numbers are very ordinary, it mustn’t be forgotten that Bassem Srarfi is only 20 at the moment, and he has a lot to learn before he can take that tally up.

Then again, buying him as a replacement for Riyad Mahrez doesn’t really appeal to anyone, since an unfinished article is not who you bring in for your best player.

There are a lot of players that Leicester City can rather buy for the money that they’d possibly get for the Algerian winger. If it was about lack of funds, then Srarfi would have made much more sense but it isn’t.

They’d be getting £75 million for Mahrez from Manchester City, and there should be a proper attempt at landing a superstar. Remember, if they make a mistake here, then they’d only make it tougher for themselves to realise their European ambitions next season.
