Leicester City have made an enquiry for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mario Gotze, according to the Mirror.

The Foxes aren’t the only club interested in the German international, though, with Arsenal, Everton, Newcastle United and West Ham United all monitoring his situation.

There were big things expected of Mario Gotze when he burst on to the scene in Jurgen Klopp’s Dortmund before netting the World Cup winning goal against Argentina in 2014.

Since then, however, nothing has gone to plan for the 26-year old. After falling out of favour at Bayern Munich, he moved back to the Westafalenstadion to revive his career, but a hamstring injury and then being diagnosed with Myopathy didn’t help at all.

Now looking to get himself back on track, Gotze is willing to leave Borussia Dortmund for the Premier League, and he’s not short of options at all.

Arsenal are undoubtedly the favourites to sign him because of Sven Mislintat’s (head of recruitment) BVB links, but Leicester City are no minnows in the transfer window, and they are still in with a tiny chance of making it happen.

They are in need of a no.10, have the funds to go on and make a big money signing, and they’ve got a decent squad with which to attract good players as well.

Even if the Bundesliga giants were to demand in excess of £40 million for the star playmaker, then it would be reasonable and well within Leicester’s reach.

The transfer might seem a bit far-fetched, yes, but Leicester City have a habit of pulling off the impossible.
