Five steps Leicester City need to take to not be the next Southampton

Step 2: European football a minimum

If Leicester really want to push on and not regress; then they need to be qualifying for Europe – and on a regular basis, too. They may not be able to break into the top six regularly, but the best of the rest is certainly achievable.

For Leicester City to be taken seriously as contenders, they need to compete well with teams at the top of the table (which is the owners’ ambition), then they need to consolidate their position as the best of the rest in the Premier League.

It will grow their reputation as a club which will only benefit them on and off the pitch.
