Leicester City have signed Danny Ward from Liverpool for £12.5 million.

The Welsh international becomes the Foxes’ fourth signing of the summer after the arrivals of Ricardo Pereira from FC Porto, Jonny Evans from West Bromwich Albion and James Maddison from Norwich City.

Although initially seen as a replacement for Kasper Schmeichel, Ward has been brought in to provide competition to the Dane after the sale of Ben Hamer.

Speaking to LCFC TV following the completion of his move, the 25-year old said:

"“I’m delighted to be here and I’m really looking forward to the future with this Football Club. I’ve come here to develop my all-round game and hopefully help deliver some more success. The Club has had that in recent years and hopefully there’s more to come in the future.”"

Claude Puel also expressed his delight at signing Danny Ward before explaining why is he an important part of the squad. He said:

"“I’m very happy to welcome Danny to Leicester City Football Club. Pre-season preparations have started well for us and with Danny joining the group, it will give us even more competition in the squad, which is crucial for us ahead of what will be another very competitive Premier League campaign.”"

Starting his career at Wrexham AFC, Ward signed for Liverpool all the way back in 2012; however, he only made three appearances for the club, having had loan spells at Morecambe, Aberdeen and Huddersfield Town.

His signing could also mean that Eldin Jakupovic, who was signed from Hull City last season, may depart as well, having seen himself fall further down the pecking order. Cardiff City, Derby County, Middlesbrough and West Bromwich Albion are all interested in him.

The departure that the Foxes faithful would be more concerned with for now is that of Kasper Schmeichel. With Thibaut Courtois looking very likely to be sold to Real Madrid, the Blues are eyeing Arsenal’s Petr Cech and the Leicester shotstopper as the potential replacements.

While bringing Cech back to Stamford Bridge shouldn’t be a problem for the West Londoners, the Gunners may not let him leave if David Ospina signs for Besiktas – a move that has been on the cards for some time.

In that case, Chelsea might only have Kasper Schmeichel to look to, which is not a good news for Leicester City.
