Leicester City are looking to replace Harry Maguire – a reported Manchester United target – with Chelsea’s Gary Cahill, according to The Sun.

Jose Mourinho reportedly wants to ship out some of the less favoured defenders who he thinks are not upto the standards anymore – these names ranging from Luke Shaw to Chris Smalling.

After they’ve made way, the Portuguese’s next step could be bringing in Harry Maguire from Leicester City for a whooping £65 million. If United do pay that, it would make the 25-year old the most expensive English player of all time, and second only to Virgil Van Dijk, whose £75 million acquisition by Liverpool is the costliest for any defender.

Another sale to a Manchester-based club would leave Leicester without two of their most important players (Riyad Mahrez being the other), the fear of which has caused them to target Gary Cahill. Remember him?

The ageing Englishman could find himself more often on the bench than on the field following Maurizio Sarri’s (and Daniel Rugani’s) arrival, and even if unwillingly, he would have to assess his options.

While he may not find the East Midlands as charming as West London, the lure of regular first team football may just make him sign that agreement at the King Power Stadium.

But it doesn’t sound like the best of deals, does it? You don’t replace a player who is about to peak with a player who peaked some time ago. Leicester may as well continue with big Wes Morgan for another season.
