Leicester City defender Harry Maguire has done little to give any assurances about his future at the club.

The 25-year old is being targeted by both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur after surprising everyone with his consistent displays at the FIFA World Cup.

Amidst all of the disturbing speculation, Maguire has now added more fuel to fire with as ambiguous a statement as you are ever likely to see.

In a huge interview with The Sun, here’s what the former Hull City centre-back had to say:

"“Every player wants to play at the highest level. I’ve just come back from playing at a World Cup, where I really enjoyed the high pressure of the games. It was something that I really thrived off.“Leicester City have been unbelievable to me and I’m really happy there but I’m also an ambitious player and everyone wants to play at the top.”"

The last time a Leicester player called himself “ambitious”, we all know about the saga that ensued. While Maguire doesn’t really come across as a player who could go to the lengths that Riyad Mahrez did, shall he want to leave, then Claude Puel and friends may have no choice.

In all fairness, Maguire does deserve a move to a bigger club, having proven what is he all about. However, the problem here is where his departure leaves the club – especially this late in the transfer window.

We only have a couple of weeks left before the transfer window shuts down. Assuming that he leaves about a week from now, that would hardly leave any time for the Foxes to get the ideal replacement for their star centre-back.

Gary Cahill has been touted as a replacement, but even a deal for him won’t be that simple, with Chelsea already looking like they could be reduced to bare bones. Interesting times ahead at the King Power Stadium.
