James Maddison has won the Leicester City fans over with his reasoning for why he chose to move to the King Power Stadium.

Leicester had Tottenham Hotspur, Fulham, Everton, West Ham United, Manchester City and a number of other clubs to compete with for the attacking midfielder, meaning that they couldn’t even afford the blink of an eye in their pursuit.

At the end, however, it was the Foxes who had his signature on a contract that is surely going to be mentioned a few times the next season, the reason being the promise that Maddison showed on his Premier league debut.

While he graced the Old Trafford’s sacred turf, there were many sat in the stands thinking what could possibly have made him come to Leicester, when he could have easily chosen another club with a bigger purse for wages. Maddison has a simple reason for that.

"“They’re the perfect examples for young players, like me Ben Chilwell and Demarai Gray,” Maddison said of Jamie Vardy and Harry Maguire.“I’ve been in the England under-21s recently. It’s a big advert for Leicester City, knowing players like Harry and Jamie are in the England set-up and doing so well. It’s a positive.“That made me want to come to Leicester City, seeing that pathway into the England team. That’s what dreams are made of and that’s what we aspire to be.”"

He may have only played a single game at the top level, but it already looks like an England call-up is a more than realistic aim for Maddison.

At the FIFA World Cup earlier this summer, we saw how England, for all of their flair, missed a midfielder who had everything in him from technique to range, and assists to goals. Maddison could quite easily be that player, provided that he keeps progressing the way he did at Norwich City.

In the Premier League, we’ve seen many young footballers light up the country with their raw talent to only fade away with time. Maddison has to make sure he doesn’t let that happen.
