Adrien Silva not planning to leave Leicester City anytime soon
Adrien Silva is not planning to leave Leicester City anytime soon despite rumours that he is pondering a return to Sporting Lisbon in January.
Reports in Portugal state that Silva had agreed a deal in principle to move to his former club – but only if Jose Maria Ricciardi wins the presidential election to be held this Saturday.
Ricciardi has himself confirmed that the 29-year old midfielder would be on his way, shall he emerge triumphant.
Speaking to Portuguese TV, he said:
"“I can confirm that only the negotiation with Leicester is lacking. If we win, Adrien will come to Sporting in January.”"
Adrien Silva, however, has rubbished all the claims, reiterating that he is fully focused where he is. In an Instagram post, he wrote:
"“Dear supporters, following the news that came to the public in the last few hours, I hereby state that despite my desire to one day return to Sporting, something that everyone knows, it is false that I have made any kind of commitment to any candidate.“Although I have been contacted several times by several candidates, my president is only one and his name is Sporting. As a Sportinguista, I always want the best for my club and whoever is the winner will have all my support, respect and affection because I am sure they want the best for our club.“At this moment I defend the colours of Leicester City and I am focused on giving my best here.“Sporting CP is the club of my heart, who I will always defend and support during my life. I’m made of Sporting!“A good luck hug for all the candidates. Bring the best for our club. Forever yours, Adrien Silva.”"
Things can change pretty quickly in football, especially a footballer’s mood and stance, so we’d probably have to wait and watch how this one pans out. It’s unlikely that a football club’s presidential candidate will say something of this kind without there being any truth to it.
It may well be that Silva is waiting to see how it goes for him at Leicester. So far, he has only started one game in the Premier League against Manchester United, which he failed to do anything of note in – except losing possession.
With Nampalys Mendy starting to win Claude Puel’s trust after some solid displays, and Wilfred Ndidi an indispensable part of the side, Silva could find it difficult to get playing time under his belt. That could ultimately make him force his way through, but there’s still a long time to go before matters get to that stage.
