Leicester City helicopter crash: Claude Puel distraught but well
Leicester City manager Claude Puel has confirmed that he and his wife are both safe, and were not aboard the helicopter that crashed outside the King Power Stadium.
The BBC and a few other outlets had earlier reported that the Frenchman may have been on board. Thankfully, he wasn’t.
However, there’s no word on owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, his daughter, the two pilots and an unidentified fifth person, who are all understood to have been involved in the crash. Unsubstantiated reports claim that none of them have survived.
As the footballing world waits to hopefully get some good news, Puel has reflected on what is an incredibly sad time for everyone associated with the club, while also confirming his own well-being.
"“It is a tragedy for the club. All of my thoughts are with the victims and their families and I want reassure all the people who are concerned about me. I am distraught, but I am well.”"
We are all at a loss for words at the moment, such is the extent of the horror, the grief and the shock that we are all engulfed in. Srivaddhanaprabha has always shared a special bond with the Leicester family, and for anyone who’s a part of that family, the incident is terribly dismaying.
The Thai businessmann has changed the face of the club without ever trying to use it for his own interests. Since buying Leicester in 2010, he hasn’t merely been able to bring footballing success, but financial strength as well.
He has brought moments that none of us thought we’d ever see in our lifetime. He has made the Foxes believe in miracles.
And now, the orchestrator of perhaps the most miraculous miracle ever seen in any sport needs a miracle himself.
