Cardiff City Vs Leicester City: What was said in the team huddle
People have been curious to know what was said in the Leicester City huddle before the kick-off against Cardiff City.
After both the teams had observed a minute’s silence in the memory of the late Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, Leicester’s squad and staff huddled together as Wes Morgan and Schmeichel, the most senior in the dressing room, delivered their speeches.
The latter has now revealed what was exactly said in Leicester’s circle of solidarity. He also heaped tons of praise on Khun Vichai, who the team has lost “what feels like a family member” in.
Speaking to the Leicester Mercury, he said:
"“Wes said a bit, I said a bit and people had a lot to say because he meant so much to so many people.“Everyone wanted to chip in.“We were just talking in the dressing room. There was no real need for game plans or tactics, it was just about controlling our emotions. It was tough but we controlled it well I thought.“We talked about having to just stick together and be what we have always been – a family.“We talked about how proud we are of being here, of being part of what he has built.“This week we wanted to be together. We have all lost what feels like a family member and we wouldn’t have been here without him.“He brought everyone here and all the memories, the family he has built and the culture he has instilled.“This club was in a pretty precarious situation and to build what he has built is quite amazing.“It is one thing building a club and a team who can perform on the pitch, but we are all proud of being part of the club he has built.“The feeling he has instilled in everyone. It doesn’t matter who you are or what position you have at the club whether it be player or staff or stadium staff or whatever.“Whoever it may be is equal.”"
There has been no shortage of tributes and messages for Khun Vichai. It is an ocurrence that, with due respect, is very rare in the case of club owners. For Schmeichel, that, in itself, is a reflection of who and what the Thai was.
"“It is a measure of the man,” he said.“Stories keep coming out of how kind and generous he was.“I can only speak for myself and the impact he has had on my family has been amazing.“I am proud to be part of his family. I am exceptionally proud of his sons. He has two sons and two daughters, and his wife, and the strength they have shown and composure and leadership is quite astounding.“There were amazing scenes at the end [of the Cardiff game]. That is what sport can do.“For one man to be able to create that is quite unique. To have a reaction from not just sport but for a person to have had an impact all over the world is quite unique.”"
As Leicester play Burnley this week, we can all expect the fans and players to once again leave no stone unturned in expressing their love for Khun Vichai.
It’ll be the first time that the Foxes would be playing at the King Power Stadium since the incident, and it’s only natural that everyone will find it awkward to not see Khun Vichai anymore. After all, he has been here for more than eight years.
That the result this Saturday doesn’t matter at all goes on to say a lot about the extent of the pain being felt at the moment. Obviously, it’ll be good to win, but it’s not necessarily what’s needed.
