Leicester City loanee Islam Slimani is not happy with things as they are at Fenerbahce, according to Milliyet.

Apart from the fact that the Algerian’s national teammate Yassine Benzia has been left out of the club’s UEFA Champions League squad, Nabil Dirar and Aatif Chahechouhe – both North African players – haven’t been training with the first team. Slimani is worried that he might be the next African to face the consequences of this newly begun trend.

The 30-year old, who is on a season-long deal at the Turkish club, has made 13 appearances, and only found the net three times, which isn’t a far cry from his time at Leicester.

He scored just 13 times in 46 appearances for the Foxes following his move in 2015, a return that made Claude Puel loan him out to Newcastle United.

It got even worse for him with the Toons, as he missed ten fixtures in total – seven because of a thigh injury, and three because of a suspension. In the four games he played in, his only meaningful contribution was an assist against Arsenal.

How times change. When Slimani was signed from Sporting CP for a club record £28 million, he was expected to form a formidable partnership with Jamie Vardy, but he just couldn’t find that touch from his days in Portugal. He still hasn’t, and probably won’t at this age (30).

He’ll be 31 by the time his loan ends, and it’s unlikely that he’d be welcomed back in a young Leicester side, not with Puel at the helm anyway. Yes, he may stand a good chance if Sam Allardyce is the the new boss at the King Power Stadium next summer.
