Former Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri has been appointed as Fulham’s new manager after they sacked Slavisa Jokanovic.

The Cottagers currently sit bottom of the Premier League table with just five points from their first twelve games. They’ve lost nine, drawn two and won only one game against Burnley.

With Fulham sinking further and further into the mire, Ranieri now has a huge task on his hands. Safety is obviously a priority, but the club would want much more with the squad that they have at their disposal.

Ranieri is well aware of the ambitions. Speaking after his appointment, he put it on record that he isn’t here for some relegation battle anyway.

"“It is an honour to accept Mr Khan’s invitation and opportunity to lead Fulham, a fantastic club with tradition and history.“The objective at Fulham should never be to merely survive in the Premier League. We must at all times be a difficult opponent and should expect to succeed.“This Fulham squad has exceptional talent that is contrary to its position in the table.”“I know this team is very capable of better performances, which we will work on straight away as we prepare for Southampton at the Cottage”."

“The Tinkerman” welcomes Southampton in his first game in charge before two games that he would have least preferred so early in his tenure: Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, and Leicester City at Craven Cottage.

The 67-year old has been up against the Blues before, but it’ll be the first time that he faces Leicester – the club where he went from someone who was remembered for the wrong reasons to someone who masterminded what is arguably the greatest sporting triumph of all time.

Emotions, however, will have little importance when Leicester meet Fulham. The Foxes’ trip to South West London will mark the end of a run of easy fixtures, as they play Tottenham Hotspur (H), Crystal Palace (A), Chelsea (A) and Manchester City (H) thereafter. It makes the encounter with Ranieri’s side a must win. Don’t miss this one.
