Leicester City to make £15 million move for Arsenal midfielder?
Arsenal midfielder and Leicester City target Mohamed Elneny could be one of the players out of the Emirates Stadium in the January Transfer Window, according to The Sun.
The Gunners are considering signing Villareal midfielder Pablo Fornals, who has a £17.8 million release clause – but only if they can get £15 million for Elneny. If Leicester are indeed interested, then that’s the price they would have to look to match.
Since his move to North London from FC Basel in 2016, he has made 76 appearances, playing the role of a squad player who starts in games of lesser importance.
Now 26, he would want to move on for the push that his career needs. Would Leicester go for him, though, is another question. The Foxes had a £10 million bid reportedly accepted back in 2017; however, the Egypt international rejected the move.
Earlier this summer, he signed a new four-year contract and once again reminded everyone of his intentions to stay and fight for his place. He said:
"“There were some clubs interested in me because I was not playing enough games and maybe they thought they could sign me or even have me on loan.“I heard about this in the news just like everyone else and I was not interested at all. I spoke with the people here at the club and I told them: ‘I don’t want to leave. I want to fight for my position.’“I trust myself, I have a dream to pursue and I am not going to give up on it. I dream big and this is one of the biggest clubs in the world and I want to stay.“The club welcomed my decision to stay and that was the end of it. People were saying, ‘You aren’t playing enough games, maybe you should leave or go on loan somewhere’ but I wanted to prove myself.”"
Elneny would certainly represent a very interesting signing for Leicester. He has a bit of everything in him. He’s energetic, a workhorse, defensively good, offers some creativity and is overall a class act in the middle of the park.
He’d also be an upgrade on most of the central midfielders that Claude Puel currently has at his disposal. The age being on his side as well, he fits right into the boss’ ambition of building a vibrant young team.
If you can spend £10 million Rachid Ghezzal, then £15 million shouldn’t be too much for someone who offers far more – and consistently.
