James Maddison will “learn from his mistake” for Leicester City
Leicester City persevered for a 1-1 draw at Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday. Influential playmaker James Maddison was sent off in the match; his second yellow card for simulation. He has apologised and hopefully won’t make the same mistake again:
It’s true – Leicester City would have probably beaten Brighton & Hove Albion if James Maddison made his usual 75 minutes in the match. He didn’t. Unfortunately he was booked for an “avoidable trip on Anthony Knockaert”, as described by Sky Sports.
After this mishap, Maddison really let his side down for the first time in his glittering, early Foxes career – simulating a foul in the penalty box and receiving his second yellow card on 28 minutes.
James Maddison took to social media to apologise for his ‘mistake’:
"“Apologies to everyone for what happened today. Nobody wants to see diving in our beautiful game. I was anticipating contact that never came, but that’s no excuse. It’s a mistake and I will learn from it. Lads showed fantastic fight and determination to get us back in the game and go home with a more than deserved point.”Via: James Maddison (Instagram)"
It is interesting to hear the 21-year-old say he anticipated contact, because he was in a fantastic position inside the box to make something happen. The England squad member needs to concentrate on supplying the assist, or producing a goal himself or via a key pass.
Diving or cheating is widely condemned and Maddison will be feeling the heat as he is vilified on FT – ‘football’ Twitter – some will say rightly so! Whereas, Foxes of Leicester take the view that he is an exceptional, young professional; we all make mistakes.
In fact, the former Norwich player has not done anything heinous in life, therefore should be given time to prove himself worthy of the amazing opportunity and advantages he has. Don’t give up on him as your favourite player yet, you aspiring footballers – just make sure you the ball it in the back of the net or find the player in space when you’re playing.
Hopefully ‘Madders’ will return from suspension to add the great talents we all know he possesses, soon enough. A one game suspension is usual for this type of sending off.
Fortunately, following a spirited display second half, the Foxes managed a draw thanks in part to a wonderful piece of skill by defender Wes Morgan. A penalty for a foul on Kelechi Iheanacho gave Jamie Vardy a spot-kick to smash home. This, as every point gained this season, is precious after such tragedy. Leicester City meet Southampton next in the Carabao Cup Fourth Round on Tuesday, November 27 at the King Power Stadium. A place in the quarter-finals versus Manchester City is up for grabs.
