Report: Danny Simpson ‘ready to fight’ for Leicester City future
Nobody wants to see a one time Premier League champion out-in-the-cold but that is exactly where Danny Simpson finds himself with Leicester City at present. Now, the former Manchester United player is reportedly ready to fight for his role as a Fox:
Leicester City’s champions of 2015/16 achieved the unachievable, as well as an almost mythological status. Heroes, no less – as premiership victors. Danny Simpson was vitally important to the side, as were all, in regards to balance and consistency at right-back. Unfortunately for him, he is currently out-of-favour with Foxes manager Claude Puel.
Yet, with only one recognised senior defender in that position fit until after New year – Simpson has a chance to become the starting player once more, or at least prove his worth as understudy.
Daniel Amartey apparently broke his ankle, although Leicester City did not particularly confirm his diagnosis. Four months injured is the prognosis for the Ghanaian. He was improving in the position – naturally he is a midfielder, not a very successful Premier League one either – but he is still unsatisfactory for that area, if the club wishes to realise European qualification once more.
Ricardo Pereira is the man-of-the-moment in the right-defensive-side. Although, he certainly seems rather useful, better and effective more forward: right-midfield or wing for example. However, his form is also on the increase in the defence. Therefore, Simpson has his work cutout in replacing the Portuguese international.
Telegraph’s John Percy says of the situation:
"“Danny Simpson is ready to fight for his Leicester City future after being given a rare chance to impress by Claude Puel,” Percy continues,“Puel is set to make a number of changes for the visit of his former club Southampton, and it is understood Simpson will make his first start since the final day of last season.“The 31-year-old will be a free agent at the end of this campaign. But Simpson is still hopeful of earning a new contract with Leicester and is determined to seize his chance in the fourth-round tie.”"
Good luck to ‘Simmo’ in his quest for a reunion with the Leicester City first team versus the Saints, he is certainly a reliable player. Whereas, attacking-wise – in a very contemporary sense of the right-back – he seems inadequate. Politely, a loan, or more suitably, a permanent move is sufficient.
Whilst publishing, the Saints and Foxes sides should be arriving at the King Power Stadium. Please keep up to date with Foxes of Leicester’s social media accounts to see thorough analysis of how the 21-year-old fared in his return.
