Once upon a time Andy was the undisputed ‘footballing king’ at Leicester City. Times change. Like another Premier League champion at the club, Danny Simpson, King battles for a place; with futility – not being in the 25-man league squad. Alas, now he is turning to pastures new with a reported transfer request:

Being 19th top scorer in Leicester City’s history is a great achievement. Achieving that as a midfielder is a truly tremendous accolade. Andy King is a very natural goalscorer. He could have been a striker if he was slightly taller, more muscular or quicker.

A Premier League medal still materialized for King; along with a Championship championship, as well as a League One title. In addition, he picked up the young Player of the Year award at Leicester City once. That sits with his two Player of the Year awards. Indisputable club legend material.

With Wales as an international, the 30-year-old is also decorated: 50 caps and two goals. He holds the record for most national appearances while a Fox. Finding himself very much still in Ryan Giggs’ plans for the Dragons.

Unfortunately, things have turned sour in regards to King’s club career at the King Power Stadium. In all honesty, he is surplus to requirements. There is no way to respectfully say that to a man who has been a wonderful servant to the club – accomplishing, surely, as much as a player could wish for domestically.

It is, though, obvious that Claude Puel does not need or, indeed, want to field his midfield option. Now, fresh news on the scenario is available which clears up any lingering doubts.

Respected reporter John Percy of Telegraph Sport says due to King’s absence from the 25-man premiership squad and ‘humiliating’ snub for the Carabao Cup team on Tuesday was the player’s final straw:

"“Andy King is set to demand a move away from Leicester in January after suffering another first-team snub.King, a Premier League title winner and Leicester’s longest-serving player, is set to bring an end to his 14-year association with the club when the transfer window reopens next year.”Via: Telegraph"

Of course, it will be upsetting for the Blue Army to see King depart the club he has been with since age-15; yet he has a lot to offer. Appearing to be able to continue at top-level – or a one division step down – for five more years.

Hot. Cup glory is on LCFC's minds. light

Unless you see the Leicester City finisher-extraordinaire involved in the League Cup game versus Manchester City next month, expect him to leave in January. Possibly on loan but more likely, and suitably, a permanent switch. Swansea, Derby and Cardiff – according to Daily Mail – are, or were, allegedly interested in acquiring his services. Claude Puel apologised to King after ignoring his player for the Southampton match, per Leicester Mercury.
