The red card will serve as a good lesson for Leicester City midfielder James Maddison, Claude Puel has said.

Maddison, in three minutes of utter madness against Brighton and Hove Albion, was twice shown a yellow card. The first of them was shown for a terrible foul, while the other was shown for a blatant dive before the midfielder plodded off the pitch.

Maddison’s was the fourth sending off of a Leicester player this season. Wes Morgan leads the charts with two red cards (sent off against AFC Bournemouth and Everton), whereas Jamie Vardy (sent off against Wolverhampton Wanderers) has one to his name as well.

The marching orders given to Morgan and Vardy should have been warning enough for the other Leicester players, but seeing as they haven’t done any good, Claude Puel now hopes that Maddison’s red card will teach some sort of a lesson to him and the teammates as well.

"“Of course it will a be a good lesson for him and for his team-mates,” said Puel.“He was very upset with himself. It was not the time to discuss it with him at the time."

It’s certainly a touch on the baffling side that Leicester have – as cannot be stated enough – ended four of their 13 Premier League games with ten men.

They are the top of the pile for red cards this season and have had twice as many players sent off as any other team in the league. Everton and Manchester United are the closest with two red cards each.

Next. Leicester City must wake up or risk losing their sleep. dark

If Leicester continue at this rate, they may end up breaking the record for sending offs in a Premier League season. The record is jointly-held by Queens Park Rangers (2011/12) and Sunderland (2009/10), who had nine players shown the red card by the referee.
