Leicester City’s James Maddison compared to England legend after stunner
In the Premier League table, Leicester City find themselves two points away from 6th position. That is in part to a redeemed James Maddison, following his wonderful goal against Watford. Leading manager Claude Puel to compare him to one of England’s most talented ever players:
Watford are having a good season, proving people wrong, taking deserved points, playing exciting football. James Maddison would fit in well there; just as he did at Leicester City and the premiership. Redemption came to the England squad member, Saturday: he was sent off in his previous match for diving – but scored a stunner on return after completing a suspension.
Plaudits have been swift and extremely complimentary of the former Norwich man this campaign. In particular, his facilitating and technique are highly praised. Now, following the goal and positive return versus the Hornets, Leicester City gaffer Claude Puel highlighted his player being as special as former England great, and manager, Glen Hoddle.
Hoddle was a supremely talented midfielder, like Maddison. In recent times the ex-Tottenham Hotspur playmaker has been very ill – suffering a heart attack and undergoing surgery. However, he is said to be recovering well at home.
BBC Sport quote the Leicester City boss – who played with Hoddle at Monaco – as saying Maddison has the capacity to innovate, similarly to the 61-year-old. Puel stated that he has seen indistinguishable finishes from both. In addition, the former teammate wished the one-time Three Lions chief all the best with his health.
At lcfc.com, the 22-year-old explained his delight at the worldie from Saturday:
"“It’s right up there! It’s a different sort of goal, it’s not like an individual strike from distance or a free-kick. It was a really good counter attack, a good team goal.“I picked it up from deep, I found Vards (Jamie Vardy), who was in a good bit of space and he got it out to Marc [Albrighton].“The quality Marc has got from wide areas, he put it on my toe, didn’t he? I had a good touch and thankfully I stuck it away. I’m really chuffed with that one.”– James Maddison"
The sky is the limit for ‘Madders’; he can become a Leicester legend and easily attain 50 caps for his country. This season – his first in the top-flight – he has involved himself in four goals in six home King Power Stadium outings, in the division.
Leicester City are currently 8th in the Premier League, two points away from 6th; along with European aspirations. That is a miraculously brilliant ongoing achievement, since the tragic death of chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha in a helicopter crash in October.
