Ricardo Pereira can defend, quite well.

Right-back is Leicester City’s most discussed position this season, thus far. Danny Simpson has been the go-to guy in that area for a few years. He is not anymore; despite an extremely rare fielding versus Southampton in the cup. Ricardo Pereira is now first choice.

That is following Dan Amartey’s injury – he may be sidelined for another three months at least. Although many fans – this writer included – were completely unconvinced that Amartey was the perfect fit. In this division, and with European qualification aspirations, no team can afford to have any weak players – especially in defence.

Ricardo also seemed unqualified to play that role convincingly throughout the term. He played exceptionally in more forward places, but visibly struggled in the defensive role – Everton’s Bernard making particularly light work of the Portuguese earlier in the campaign. But now, when Leicester City go to Goodison Park, Ricardo will give his Brazilian opponent a tougher time.

This is due to the fact that Ricardo is growing into the position and making it his own. Contributing to the Foxes’ three clean sheets in four games. Statistically, the 25-year-old is also improving. According to WhoScored, ‘Ricky P’ – as Leicester City social media refers to him – is becoming a monster at the back. Against Watford he produced: three interceptions, one block, four tackles, six impressive aerial battle victories and an astonishing 15 clearances.

Ultimately, after a great display, Foxes of Leicester conducted a poll to decide the Man of the Match versus Watford. And to no surprise, Ricardo won the vote; even favouring the tweet. Long may your success continue, my friend.
