Injury updates on three first team players: Leicester City Vs Crystal Palace
Leicester City meet Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday in the Premier League. Claude Puel will attract more detractors with a loss, or possibly even a draw. However, there is more good news than bad on the injury front:
Crystal Palace entertain Leicester City in a ‘six-pointer’ for the respective managers, Roy Hodgson and Claude Puel, although the Eagles are in a much more precarious position in the Premier League. The East Midlands club sit 9th; while the South Londoners are 16th.
On Thursday, Sky Sports‘ Rob Dorsett was at Leicester City’s Belvoir Drive training ground. He witnessed Jamie Vardy and Harry Maguire in full practice. Yet, Ben Chilwell was not involved, leading to speculation the left-back won’t be available for the Palace clash at the weekend:
"The striker [Vardy] has missed Leicester’s last two games against Fulham and Tottenham due to a recurrence of a groin problem. However, the 31-year-old is in contention for Saturday’s Premier League match at Selhurst Park as Leicester look to return to winning ways after drawing with Fulham and losing against Spurs.Harry Maguire also trained on Thursday and will be available for selection once moreVia: Sky Sports"
Chilwell was not at his best versus Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, having been a revelation this campaign. On lcfc.com we learned from Claude Puel:
“[Ben] Chilwell felt a pain in his knee, we’ll make a decision tomorrow. It is not serious.”
So, the knock may be the reason behind a lacking display – judging from his high standards. With rotation prevalent in the festive period, it is best he has a rest, but the Puel does not rule out Chilwell’s involvement.
If the Frenchman in charge of the Foxes does not have the England international defender ready for selection and maintains the four-man-defence, consequently Christian Fuchs will surely deputize in place of the Leicester City academy graduate.
Austria’s former captain is a more than capable replacement. Although top-flight rustiness may develop, as he has only played three times this season all in the League Cup. Though, he involved himself in two goals in those appearances, per WhoScored.
Spurs beat Leicester City 2-0 in the Foxes’ last premiership match, ending a seven game unbeaten streak for Claude Puel’s team in all competitions. He is under increasing pressure, mainly from the ‘Puel out’ faction of the Blue Army following disappointing performances and points hauls – chiefly against lesser opposition.
