Leicester City are not a selling club anymore

Leicester City will not be bullied by the big clubs even if a player sticks his oar in the club will hold firm till their price is met.

On the subject of another star player, Maguire, Claude Puel stated recently:

"“When he [Maguire] started the season, it was about respecting the deal, to respect his contract, his feeling with the team and I think we will see what will happen at the end of the season.” (Via: Leicester Mercury)"

If we judge Chilwell’s situation comparatively with the Maguire scenario, then the likelihood of Chilwell moving in January is incredibly improbable. This is for several reasons: the prospective mid-term transfer would leave Leicester with a changed team outlook part way through a difficult season; due to the side’s redevelopment and the tragic death of chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha.

Most notably was Khun Vichai’s emerging non-release clause policy. After the club lost N’golo Kante to Chelsea in 2016 for a nominal fee, in a contemporary sense, Kante became emblematic of the late owner’s reported distaste for the contract stipulation. So, Maguire has no such clause, and we can estimate the same for Chilwell as well.

The point the former chairman was making over Kante and now the England defensive-duo, is that Leicester City football club are no longer a ‘selling team’. Sharks in big cities like Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur in London, along with Manchester United and City up north can no longer bully the Midlanders; and rightly so!

More importantly than any above reason, Chilwell appears content at the King Power and said he won’t find similarly bonded teammates again. He is also close to fellow Young Lions Demarai Gray and James Maddison – whom it is imperative Leicester also keep!

Ultimately, the aim at the King Power Stadium is not to merely sustain premiership status – but continuously qualify for European competition. In order to fulfill this aim, a club must keep its top talent.

Following the miraculously inspiring title win in 2015/16, Leicester went on to almost progress to the Champions League semi-finals – concreting their name for incredible achievement in the history of global sports, in the process.

Crystal Palace host the Foxes on Saturday as the Premier League returns. Palace are 16th and City are 9th. Both teams expect to be higher, but, naturally the Eagles are in more trouble down by the relegation zone.
