Manchester City are reportedly preparing a £50 million bid for Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell, according to the Mirror.

City’s first-choice left-back, Benjamin Mendy, who was signed for £52 million last summer, hasn’t quite been able to live up to the expectations because of regular injuries.

He spent a majority of the last season in the treatment room because of a cruciate injury, and it does look like he’ll be a rare sight on the pitch this season as well. Having already missed seven games (three of them in September with a damaged foot), he is now out till March with yet another knee injury.

It is absolutely shocking that he has spent a season and a half at the Etihad Stadium but has only made 16 starts. No wonder Pep Guardiola has turned his attention to Leicester’s Chilwell.

The 21-year old – who signed a new five-year contract just a couple months back – has featured in all of Leicester’s Premier League games this season, though his extraordinary run could come to an end because of a knee injury.

Up until the last season, Chilwell was a very divisive figure. There were some who thought that Claude Puel was well out of depth for starting him over Christian Fuchs, but there also were those who liked the look of him – there’s no sign of the former anymore.

He has grown into an England international and is probably the country’s best, too. It’ll hardly shock anyone to see the Citizens come calling for him in January.
