Leicester City could lose to Cardiff City yet again – but in a transfer battle for Liverpool full-back Nathaniel Clyne.

The 27-year old hasn’t exactly been racking up appearances for the Reds this season, having made just five appearances (two starts) so far.

It isn’t a far cry from his last campaign, when the former Southampton defender appeared five times as well because of a back injury. Now, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson established as Jurgen Klopp’s favourite full-backs, the German is ready to let Clyne leave on loan.

Leicester, Fulham and Cardiff have all taken note of his situation and have been touted as the England international’s potential suitors; however, leading the race for him are the Bluebirds.

Obviously, Clyne is not besotted with fighting any relegation battle, though he does have a sehnsucht for Neil Warnock. It was the Cardiff boss who handed Clyne his debut while at Crystal Palace, and that might be a decisive factor when the Liverpool defenders sits down to assess his options. Still, there are no guarantees in this one.

Leicester should definitely give it a try. Clyne would be a great signing, and an upgrade over any of the current back-up options in Danny Simpson, Christian Fuchs and Daniel Amartey. A loan deal won’t be too expensive either, which would allow Claude Puel to keep maximum funds for investing in other, more important areas.

The Foxes are badly in need of another striker and a central midfielder, who would both cost them a decent amount of money.
