Leicester City transfer news: Defender wanted by Aston Villa
Leicester City left-back Christian Fuchs is wanted at Aston Villa, reports the Mirror.
The Villans have enquired about the possibility of a loan deal, but they would have to pay the Austrian’s wages in full. In other words, they’d have to pay him £60,000 per week. Ooh.
Will Villa boss Dean Smith be willing to pay that much, though? Most probably not, making it a win-win situation for Leicester.
If they pay, that would be great, if they don’t, then Fuchs is out of contract at the King Power Stadium this summer anyway, so Claude Puel would have no problem at if the Austrian spends the rest of the season in the East Midlands.
As he has shown time and now, he still very much has it in him to be able to deliver when called upon.
Fuchs was among the top performers in both of his recent appearances against Crystal Palace and Manchester City (Carabao Cup), and if he can keep playing that way, then Puel may not have to worry about having a back-up for Ben Chilwell till the summer.
Judging by Leicester’s interest in Liverpool full-back Nathaniel Clyne, though – who has signed for AFC Bournemouth – the boss could sign another left-back, after all. Who would that be is anyone’s guess.
Leicester are also on the look for a central midfielder and a striker. While a striker would be a touch hard to find, the midfield could be bolstered by recalling Harvey Barnes from West Bromwich Albion.
The young Englishman has been tearing it up in the Sky Bet Championship, and bringing him back would instantly improve the Foxes’ midfield. We will, however, have to wait to find if Puel is in favour of cutting his loan short.
