Leicester City have received a major boost – and Liverpool a blow – ahead of their clash at Anfield next Wednesday.

Reds’ boss Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that both Trent Alexander-Arnold (knee ligament injury) and Georginio Wijnaldum (knee injury) are still not fully fit and may not be seen in action against Leicester.

That combined with the fact that Joe Gomez hasn’t even returned to training yet will make Claude Puel gambol around the East Midlands because of the percentage that Leicester’s chance of getting at least a point against Liverpool has gone up by.

It obviously isn’t a very high percentage but it’s better than before and enough for the team to feel more positive about a historically tough trip to Anfield.

And they do need to feel more positive at this moment after three consecutive defeats to Newport County, Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

All three of these defeats have highlighted the different sets of shortcomings that Leicester are badly in need of overcoming if they are get their season back on track. Finding the right balance between attack and defence will be a good start.

Leicester have either been too cautious – like against Southampton – or too open – like against Wolverhampton – and till the time that continues, they will keep finding ways to drop points.

What’s more frustrating is that the big teams haven’t caused Leicester as much trouble as others have. That’s down to two factors: Puel himself and personnel.

There’s no way the Frenchman won’t be implicated after playing three defensive midfielders at home, but there have also been occasions when he got it right but the lack of players let him down. Against Liverpool, though, you’d trust that Puel has the right set of tactics – defend, defend, defend – and players – DMs galore – to get something.
