Cenk Tosun

The Daily Star reported that the Everton striker would be available for £20 million, just 12 months after the Toffees signed him.

To round off this shortlist of potential signings, here is another out-of-favour forward with Premier League experience and a solid scoring record. The Turkish international could certainly provide ample backup to Jamie Vardy.

Despite not being nearly as injury-plagued as Austin, Tosun’s goal tally in England is certainly less prolific. After a year in English football, the 27-year-old has seven goals and two assists in 32 appearances. Still, there are success stories in the Premier League with far worse beginnings. Just before joining Everton in January 2018, Tosun had notched an impressive 14 goals in 24 games at Besiktas.

The Turkish international is undoubtedly a strong physical presence, with a keen eye for goal. He has both the ability and ferocity to shake up defences in a way that Iheanacho and Okazaki currently cannot. Leicester would be signing a match-fit player who would need very little time to adjust.

There is plenty of evidence to suggest that Tosun would be a success at Leicester, and shouldn’t be treated as a flop simply because he has fallen down the pecking order at Everton.

However, if this writer were Jon Rudkin and it was a decision between Austin and Tosun, he would opt for the former. Despite the multiple injuries, there is a good chance that Austin still has goals in him and would certainly solve the short-term target man vacancy at Leicester, while the long-term solution could well be George Hirst.
