Leicester City have had it all this year from being beaten by Newport County to losing a 4-3 slugfest in the last minute to Wolverhampton Wanderers but that’s not it.

The Daily Mail is now reporting that Tottenham Hotspur – who Leicester play on Sunday – are looking to move for James Maddison in the summer.

Maddison is understood to be a part of a list compiled by Spurs as they prepare for Cristian Eriksen’s probable departure.

The Dane has a year left on his current contract and he hasn’t signed an extension yet, so there’s your hint about what he’s thinking right now.

It is also understood that Spurs will only be looking at English players to be able to meet the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League’s minimum requirements as far as the number of homegrown players in the squad is concerned.

They are currently falling just short on that front, meaning that Mauricio Pochettino has had to unwillingly name academy players in his squad. And with Eriksen likely to leave, the Argentine will have the opportunity to not only sign a replacement but meet the criteria, too.

Spurs were interested in signing Maddison last summer as well but they couldn’t sign him because of a lack of funds. If they do manage to make some money off Eriksen’s sale, funds won’t be a problem but the question is: Will Maddison be interested?

It is hard to tell for now. They are doing really well but are going to be limited money to invest in their squad, which may or may not bring them any silverware.

Without the promise of trophies, a player of Maddison’s calibre would prefer to stay where he is and wait for someone to better to come for him. But then, there’s also the lure of playing under Pochettino.
