Leicester City midfielder Harvey Barnes feels he’s “a different sort of player” since his return and can “definitely have an effect on the team”.

Leicester recently recalled the 21-year old from his loan spell at West Bromwich Albion after his impressive displays at the Hawthorns Stadium.

In his 28 appearances for the Baggies, he scored nine goals and assisted eight, convincing Claude Puel that he could be the answer to Leicester’s uninspiring performances.

While the results may not have changed at all, Barnes’ impact has been there to see. He has looked lively, direct and someone worth investing both time and money in.

The England U-21 international has himself felt better since coming back and reckons that his loan move to West Brom – like his previous loan moves – has been of immense help.

"“I think each time I’ve been out on loan, it has helped me as a person,” said Barnes.“Naturally as you get older, you become more confident anyway.“I think definitely coming back this year I’m a different sort of player and I feel like I can definitely have an effect on the team.”"

Barnes also expressed his delight at the chances that Hamza Choudhury has been able to get under Puel. Choudhury has quickly established himself as a fan-favourite because of his solid displays, especially in the wins over Chelsea and Manchester City.

His quick rise also inspired Barnes to do even better so he could follow his Leicester U-23s teammate into the XI.

"“I was out on loan when he (Choudhury) started playing this year, but I was always texting him wishing him good luck and hoping that one day I’d be in his position getting the chances that he has.“It’s great to see your team-mates progressing and seeing the pathway that hopefully you can follow.”"

Puel has mostly been criticised for every single decision that he has taken; however, one thing that he deserves all the credit for is his development of the youth. Ben Chilwell, Demarai Gray and Choudhury have all improved under him while James Maddison – who was bought in the summer – has also made strides.

It has been the same with Barnes – and he is not shy of admitting it.

"“He has been great as you have seen with all the young lads and it has been the same for me,” he said.“The pitch time that he has given them is great and that just helps each one of us to progress and I think it is good for the under-23s who are coming through now, knowing that at the back of their minds if they are doing well and they impress the manager then they have a good chance of getting a run in the team.“I think it is just good going forward for the football club.”"
