Claude Puel has been sacked by Leicester City after his side’s 4-1 defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Leicester had only one just won of their last nine games in all competitions, drawing one (against Liverpool) and losing seven – including four successive defeats at home for the first time in 19 years.

The fanbase had been growing frustrated for quite some time, and the sack may have even come had Leicester not beaten both Chelsea and Manchester City in the space of a week.

Those two results did help the Frenchman stave off the sack, but since then, the team just couldn’t get the results.

The problem wasn’t always the performances. The defeat the other day is an example of that. Leicester weren’t as poor as the 4-1 scoreline suggests.

It’s just that they just didn’t do enough. They failed to capitalise on whatever moments of brilliance they conjured and Palace took complete advantage.

They were ruthless and rightly deserved the win. Whether Puel necessarily deserved the sack is a debate for some other day. The debate for now is who takes up the job.

First team coaches Adam Sadler and Mike Stowell will be taking charge for the game against Brighton and Hove Albion, but surely, there are too many games left for them to continue until the end of the season.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers and Newcastle United’s Rafael Benitez are both being linked with the job, though it will take some persuasion to get either one of them before the summer. Good luck, Leicester City Football Club.
