It seems that Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has upset Celtic fans more than we thought he did.

Since the 46-year old’s appointment, Celtic fans have been constantly hollering on Twitter and other social media platforms, labelling their former manager as “fraud” and “traitor” and what not.

The latest footage doing the rounds, however, supplants anything and everything said and written so far.

While a certain section of the fans had already unveiled a banner branding Rodgers as a fraud at Tynecastle Park on Wednesday – which is one of football fans’ favourite terms – some of them took it to an extreme level with a chant that is so appalling that it’s unbelievable:

"“I hope you die in your sleep, Brendan Rodgers, hope you die in your sleep I pray, hope you die, hope you die, Brendan Rodgers, from a bullet from the IRA.”"

Meanwhile, Rod Stewart, a lifelong Celtic fan, has exhorted the fanbase to maintain dignity and keep their emotions in check. Speaking to talkSPORT, he said:

"“I think me and all the Celtic supporters have got to move on.“We’re all bitter. I think that [banner] says it all but we’ve got to move on, wish him luck and wish Leicester luck. I’ve got a lot of fans in Leicester so I’ve got to be careful.“We’re still hurt but I think we should now forget all about it and move on.”"

It’s clear that not all Celtic fans are joining the madness that a certain section has been indulging in, but there are no words for those who are.

The anger is understandable after Rodgers left at a time when all of would agree that he shouldn’t have; however, that doesn’t mean you fall to such a level that you advocate violence.

And not to forget, this is a man who has won seven trophies in just over two seasons for Celtic. If not his decision to leave, you have to respect his contribution to the club.

Seven trophies in two-and-a -half seasons isn’t a joke and certainly not so bad a record that it is overlooked the moment Rodgers has left for his own good.
