Jose Mourinho and comments that wind up football fans around the world are two things that can never be separated from each other.

This time, while the Portuguese has endeared himself to Leicester City fans, he has also risked the now vaunted wrath of Celtic supporters.

Pundits, former players and former managers have already been vocal in their support for Brendan Rodgers as the Irishman left Celtic to join Leicester this late in the season.

Mourinho has joined that list, too. Talking about the 46-year old’s switch on beIN Sports, the Portuguese said he wasn’t surprised at all to see the former’s decision.

"“If you say to me, am I surprised by Brendan Rodgers leaving Celtic to go to Leicester, I would say no.“The Scottish championship is not the same as the Premier League, with all due respect.“Celtic is a giant club but the Premier League is the Premier League.“I’m not surprised that he comes there.”"

However, Mourinho did differ in that he’d not have joined Leicester at this stage but waited for the pre-season.

"“I’m not surprised that he comes there,” he added.“If I was in his position I would say to Leicester, ‘I want to come to you, but not now’.“‘I want to come next season, I want to be champion in Scotland, I want to leave in the right moment’.“In my opinion, the right moment would be pre-season.”"

Right or wrong, ethical or unethical, moral or immoral, fair or unfair, the fact is, Rodgers is a Leicester manager now and there’s nothing that can be done about it – unless, of course, the club sacks him.

And that reminds us, Rodgers is only five games away from being sacked – at least, that’s what history suggests. Leicester have sacked all of their last three managers after they failed to win six games in succession.

Rodgers has already lost his first game in charge against Watford, so he must win a minimum of one game from the next five to be able to stay at the King Power Stadium; otherwise, Sam Allardyce would have to be inevitably brought in to avoid relegation.

Well, what a scenario that would be.
