Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers is intent on keeping hold of Ben Chilwell this summer.

The 22-year old has arguably been Leicester’s best player this season, leading to interest from Manchester City.

The Citizens are reportedly looking to make a move for Chilwell with Benjamin Mendy’s injury problems continuing to frustrate Pep Guardiola.

However, Rodgers does not want to lose the Leicester left-back to the Citizens.

"“I’m just in the door and I can see he’s a huge talent, I tried to take him to Liverpool when I was there,” Rodgers said.“So I know how good he is, he wasn’t in the first team though. But I’m pretty relaxed about it.“He’s a wonderful young player, he’s still got a lot to learn in his game. He really enjoys being here, we’ll see how it pans out but he’s certainly one we don’t want to lose.”"

City’s first-choice left-back, Mendy, who was signed for £52 million in 2017, hasn’t quite been able to live up to the expectations because of his injuries.

He spent a majority of the last season in the treatment room because of a cruciate injury, and he has been a rare sight on the pitch this season as well.

It is absolutely shocking that he has spent a season and a half at the Etihad Stadium but has only made 20 appearances. No wonder Guardiola has turned his attention to Leicester’s Chilwell.

Chilwell – who signed a new five-year contract just five months back – has heavily featured and starred for Leicester this campaign.

Up until the last season, he was a very divisive figure. There were some who thought that Claude Puel was well out of depth for starting him over Christian Fuchs, but there also were those who liked the look of him – there’s no sign of the former anymore.

Next. Don’t be surprised to see Wes Morgan return for Leicester City versus Burnley. dark

He has grown into an England international and is probably the country’s best, too. It’ll hardly shock anyone to see City come calling for him sooner rather than later and maybe snatch him away from Leicester.
