Kasper Schmeichel is likely to leave Leicester City this summer.

The 32-year old has been the subject of interest from a number of Premier League clubs in recent times; however, Leicester have always stood firm, as they do with most of their players.

But it may well be the end of the road for the one-time Premier League winner come the summer of 2019 despite the fact that he is contracted to the club till June 2023.

Not too long ago, the Leicester goalkeeper’s father, Peter Schmeichel, previously suggested that his son is looking for a bigger challenge elsewhere. Indeed, he wasn’t exactly lying – at least that’s what the word from inside the club is.

The former Manchester United player said:

"“Of course he wants to move away (from Leicester City) and try something bigger and challenge himself like any other player. On the other hand, once Leicester get their act together, it’s actually not a bad club.”"

Schmeichel’s departure isn’t really going to be a blow to Leicester. He is well into his 30s and, if you’ve seen him play regularly, then on a decline, too.

The distribution in particular has been a problem. Considering the fact that Rodgers does like his attacks to begin from the goalkeeper, he may not find Schmeichel the ideal player to accomplish that.

That leaves us with one question: Who do Leicester replace him with? Schmeichel has been so good over the course of his 327 appearances for the club that anyone who comes in will have to do some job.

And whoever it is, he will cost a significant amount in today’s market. Mind, money may not be a problem, identifying a replacement would be. There aren’t too many good goalkeepers who are immediately available.
