Reports: Leicester City winger scouted by Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur have scouted Leicester City winger Harvey Barnes, according to The Guardian.
Having splashed £1 billion on their new stadium, Spurs are now looking at players aged 23 or less, who they can buy for significantly less sums.
As part of that strategy, they have also had a look at Celtic’s Kieran Tierney – a Leicester target – Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish – another Leicester target – and Hull City’s Jarrod Bowen.
Well, it’s good that Tottenham want to develop young players, but you’ve got to have some funds to be able to land any of those players mentioned above.
They’d be seriously deluded to even think that they can get Barnes, Grealish or Tierney for anything less than £40 million. Can they afford that? No, not with the debt that they are under.
And Leicester are not going to sell Barnes anyway, so Tottenham should forget about landing him anytime soon. The 21-year old is quite clearly a part of Brendan Rodgers’ future plans and will therefore not be sold regardless of the offer made.
He has only contributed two assists since returning from his loan spell at West Bromwich Albion, but the overall impact has been way more than what the numbers reflect.
He has been direct, he has been lively and he has been a joy to watch. He just needs to work on his end product a bit more and he’d probably the side’s main man next season.
You can be certain that Rodgers knows that, so Tottenham can eye someone else.
