As Leicester City stretched their win-streak to four under Brendan Rodgers, the new boss spoke of his ambition to break into the established top six.

Brendan Rodgers, who left Celtic to join Leicester City after Claude Puel’s dismissal, is certainly aiming big at the King Power Stadium. Especially now that he has reinvigorated the feel-good factor on Filbert Way.

Despite losing his first game in charge at Watford, the Northern Irishman has guided the Foxes to four straight wins. Most recently, a 4-1 victory over relegated Huddersfield last weekend, which was Leicester’s biggest victory of the season so far.

With City now sitting in seventh place or the ‘best of the rest’ spot, their manager outlined his ambitious intentions for the coming seasons:

"“My ambition when I came in was to get European football for Leicester and to win a cup. Whenever that comes, that is still the ambition.” “The part of the great challenge here is the top six. We have a smaller budget than the teams in there, but it is still a great challenge. Whenever it comes, that is the ultimate challenge.” “I’m not thinking about it so much, though – just about working and seeing players improve and try to create a strong base for the summer and the start of next season.” Via Telegraph"

Rodgers’ aspirations are certainly admirable, and within the realm of possibility, should Leicester City keep hold of their plethora of young stars. However, before an assault on the top six can begin, the Foxes must assert themselves over both Wolves and Watford as ‘the best of the rest’.

This feat can realistically be achieved this season, with European football still on the cards, provided that Manchester City don’t find themselves on the end of an FA Cup upset when they face the Hornets at Wembley in May.

Although five of the Foxes’ remaining games are against the top six, they still have a fighting chance of holding seventh successfully. Rodgers must maintain the consistency that has been displayed in recent weeks right up until the final game of the season, then continue this rich vein of form into next season.

Furthermore, if City want to preserve any momentum built up in the latter stages of this season, they must keep hold of their key players and spend money wisely this summer.
