Leicester City want to sign Atalanta striker Andrea Petagna this summer
Leicester City want to sign Atalanta striker Andrea Petagna this summer, reports the ever so reliable Fabrizio Romano.
Currently on loan at Spal, the 23-year old has scored 14 goals this season despite his team spending a fair bit of the campaign at the bottom end of the table.
The Italy international has also been scouted by the club and they are convinced to the extent that a €20 million bid is being readied. But things are not that simple.
Spal have an obligation to buy Petagna for €10 million if they “aren’t” relegated. They sit in13th place in the Serie A table with a nine-point lead over 18th placed Empoli, so it’s hard to see them go down from here, meaning that the deal could get complicated.
Described as “a strong and hard-working striker with excellent technique” by Romano, Petagna is a product of the AC Milan youth academy.
He made his professional debut for the Italian giants in a UEFA Champions League group stage game against Zenit St. Petersburg in 2012 before being promoted to the first team a year later.
Following loan spells at Sampdoria, Latina, Vicenza and Ascoli, he signed for Atalanta in 2016, where he scored 11 goals and assisted 18 in 75 appearances.
After joining Spal on loan, however, Petagna has already matched that tally in just 31 games in what is proving to be his most prolific season yet.
Petagna would represent a good signing for Leicester in many ways. He’s a young player with an excellent technique, is getting better and importantly, not expensive at all.
First and foremost, though, Leicester must find a way to strike a deal.
