Brendan Rodgers not happy with Kelechi Iheanacho after Man City miss
Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers spoke disappointingly of Kelechi Iheanacho following a very poor miss at a vital stage versus his former club Manchester City.
There is nothing Leicester City and their faithful want more than expensive signings to gel with the squad and provide swift improvements to the roster. In the case of Kelechi Iheanacho, unfortunately, that hasn’t materialised despite a quality pedigree.
This writer perceives the Nigerian to be an out-and-out striker. Meaning he is not suited to a diversification of style and he is not a utility type player. However, the former Manchester City starlet clearly had made significant displays and scored a very decent amount for the Citizens.
Undoubtedly, he was close to being in the capacity he is at Leicester behind Jamie Vardy, but backup to Sergio Aguero. Of course Gabriel Jesus filled that place; and will most likely be their main man for years to come when his prolific superior retires.
So, our ‘Ian Nachos’, as he is occasionally fondly known as by the Blue Army, has been on Filbert Way for two seasons now. Sadly it may be time to sell the forward who has failed to, not acclimatise, but make inroads into the starting lineup or put any pressure on Vardy at all.
Iheanacho’s latest opportunity was at his old club at Etihad Stadium – where he missed a golden chance to hand the Foxes a well-earned point. Some observers even opined that he may have missed on purpose so not to hand impetus to Man City’s title rivals Liverpool. That is a harsh and mildly moronic statement.
Although Brendan Rodgers wasn’t particularly impressed with the bungled finish. According to the Express, here’s what the Northern Irishman had to say about his understudy striker:
"“He should score, I said that to him afterwards, in the big games there are not many moments.“They didn’t have many chances and we didn’t have many. But the one that came, you have to score that. He knows.“It’s moments when you can come into the game and make an impact, he’s a great boy, works very, very hard in training.“He’s got in front of him a top-class operator in Jamie [Vardy] so it’s difficult for him to find rhythm. However, it’s moments like that where you can make an impact. He’s actually done that in the other games.“It was a big chance for him, the ball was there and it was on his good side. But it wasn’t to be. He got himself in the position, I felt we would have deserved that at least.”"
Naturally, as a classy man and boss, Rodgers doesn’t too heavily criticise the player, in spite of the misfire being absolutely awful at the worst time. Yet one can tell this is business for the manager and if Iheanacho cannot conduct his craft efficiently then Leicester City will inevitably find another option who can.

There is a section of fans who are fed up with the efforts and output of Nigeria’s target man. In fact, that assessment is completely justifiable when perusing his statistics: 13 goals and assists combined in 57 appearances from two campaigns in all competitions.
The Foxes entertain Chelsea on Sunday at 3pm BST in the final match of this Premier League term.
