Player and manager reactions from Leicester City 0-0 Chelsea
Interview and Twitter evaluations from Leicester City players and their manager Brendan Rodgers following the final game of the season with Chelsea.
While the excitement grows for Leicester City’s 2019/20 campaign, there was still the small matter of completing the 2018/19 season. Conclusion was provided from a 0-0 draw with Chelsea at King Power Stadium.
According to premierleague.com the contest was an end-to-end affair with a total of 23 shots taken combined. Chelsea edged the Foxes with regard to possession; Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers does employ a system which usually requires much of the ball. However the formation and style compromise in structure.
Rodgers spoke to media following sharing points with the Blues:
"“It was a good game,” said Rodgers. “I thought that both teams you could see were trying to win. Conditions, it was a hot day but, I thought we played well.“We were obviously playing against top class players that can create opportunities and they had one early on which we got away with, but we also had chances of our own, so I thought for an end of season game it was a good, attacking game.“We managed to keep a clean sheet and like I said, [we] take a point so there’s lots of positives from the game.”He continued: “I think that with that level of opponent defensively we were very strong. The areas that we need to be better in is sometimes retaining the ball and just having the ball for longer periods.“They’re (Chelsea) a top class side in that top four and they can nurse the ball well but that’s something that will come with us.“The players have been absolutely brilliant, these three months have been invaluable for me to assess the players and I am really encouraged going into next season.”“I think the players have been developing and developing right the way through the season so far and like I said, in my period now with them there’s so much to be encouraged about,” added Rodgers.“We’ve got some fantastic talents, top class players and like I say, we’re looking to increase their level of the quality in our game and like I say, I’m very enthused about that. If we’re able to have a good pre-season, we can hopefully start the season very strong.”– Brendan RodgersVia lcfc.com"
Leicester City Twitter reaction
Let’s take a look at the squad’s social media posts after the final whistle:
Kasper Schmeichel references the tragic passing of Leicester owner Khun Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha.
Midfield tackling expert Wilfred Ndidi thanks the supporters and talks of his upcoming competition preparation with Nigeria.
Vardy doesn’t mention the football, just a wish for all Foxes fans to have a great summer.
Short and sweet from everyman Harry Maguire, Leicester’s England international centre-back.
Ben Chilwell performed wonderfully all term, earning himself the Three Lions left-back position early on in the process. Hopefully for the Blue Army he won’t be transferred to a team of Manchester City’s stature – because it could quite easily happen!
Of course, in more emotional news, the club bid farewell to two great servants and champions on Sunday – Shinji Okazaki and Danny Simpson.
The pair, who are now former-Foxes, have finished their contracts and are free to find other sides respectively.

Before the match striker Jamie Vardy talked of the team’s focus on winning the Pensioners clash. Sadly the impetus was not quite gained in that respect, although City have only conceded one and managed four points while consecutively playing three of the division’s foremost outfits. That confidence going into the off-season is still maintained despite the stalemate.
This preseason is as important as any, certainly in this writer’s experience, in living memory. If the gaffer’s plans are implemented sufficiently, business is conducted correctly and Leicester are ruthless in the transfer market this will be the break into European qualification or the top six premiership section. Stability is seemingly already achieved, now for some more overachieving!
