Manchester City reportedly targeting Leicester City defender Harry Maguire
Reports on Monday claim that Harry Maguire is being lined up as a replacement for Vincent Kompany at Manchester City. Will Leicester City lose their best centre-back?
Harry Maguire made his name on the international footballing stage while at Leicester City. Of course the centre-back was highly rated at Hull City, but his globally renowned breakthrough occurred with the Foxes. A superb showing from Maguire and England at the 2018 World Cup etched his name into history; not to mention the want-list of many ‘big six’ sides.
Last summer Maguire was the subject of interest from Manchester United. Though a huge price placed on him by the East Midlands club’s hierarchy scuppered the Red Devils’ plans. United are still said to be monitoring the Englishman for their shaky defence.
Now it is suspected that Manchester City will target Maguire as a replacement for departing captain Vincent Kompany. The Belgian is leaving to join Anderlecht, with Maguire considered a viable successor.
Here is the latest, according to Sky Sports:
"Harry Maguire is one of a number of central defenders being considered by Manchester City to replace Vincent Kompany, Sky Sports News understands.City may be looking for two defenders, with Nicolas Otamendi likely to leave the Etihad in search of a regular starting role.Across the city, Manchester United are understood to be monitoring Maguire’s situation – an interest which began last year under former manager Jose Mourinho. To date, Leicester have not received any approaches from clubs keen to speak to the England defender – although they are expecting interest in Maguire, left-back Ben Chilwell and attacking midfielder James Maddison"
This news will be very unsettling to Leicester fans on the surface. But the faithful can rest assured that only a ridiculously high bid would be accepted. Along with the fact that manager Brendan Rodgers and owner Top Srivaddhanaprabha have stated that the outfit is no longer a ‘selling club’.

Additionally there are allegedly no longer any release clauses in any Foxes players’ contracts, since the extremely disappointing N’golo Kante exit. Meaning Man City will do well to lure Maguire away.
The only way that this prospective transfer will happen is if the 26-year-old himself pushes for it. Don’t expect the ungrateful, disrespectful manner in which Riyad Mahrez went about leaving! Maguire not being at his best this season increases the likelihood of him remaining a Fox.
