Leicester City are increasingly looking like they are backing out of their pursuit of Youri Tielemans, according to the  Telegraph.

It is understood that AS Monaco are willing to sell the Belgian but want a minimum of £40 million – which, if Leicester do pay it, will be a club record.

The report claims that such a hefty fee could mean that Leicester “may prefer to commit their funds elsewhere”.

If that is going to be the case, then Leicester fans would be very disappointed, as they should be. Having seen the 21-year old’s stunning displays, if this is the decision that Brendan Rodgers has taken, then you will have to ask exactly what is the factor behind it.

Money can’t be the problem. Funds have always been available at the club, especially for players like Tielemans, who are worth every penny. Quality can’t be the problem either. We know that by now.

Does Rodgers have someone even better in mind? Or is he simply looking for two players for the price of one? Either way, he better be wise with his judgments.

Not being able to buy Tielemans because of a bigger club’s interest is a different thing, but not trying at all is just not right and reflects badly.

The report might easily prove to be just another average transfer window fiction that has no base at all. If it is true, however, and Leicester are indeed backing off, it would be a bit strange after Rodgers’ recent comments about the interest in buying the Monaco midfielder.
